Help - COSHH Section 6

Storage, Handling, Transport and Use

In this section, highlight any special circumstances relating to the safe method of storing, handling and using the hazardous substances listed in Section 2.  Are there any considerations needed for storage, handling and use? e.g. consider:

  • compatibility of substances,
  • prevention of drips and leaks
  • location of storage
  • use of suitable containers or carriers to transport between labs and workshops

Note them here and include in Section 11.

For transport of biological agents useful information can also be found in the Guidance on Transport of Infectious Substances, found on Safety Health and Wellbeing website.

Where flammables substances, such as solvents, are in use consider whether or not they need to be assessed under Dangerous Substances and Explosives Atmosphere Regulations (DSEAR).  if in doubt seek advice from your Departmental Safety Convener.
