Disposal of waste is often overlooked as part of the COSHH assessment process. Consider how to dispose of not just those substances listed in section 2 but also any by-products or products of the work you are doing. Waste chemicals should not be allowed to accumulate on the bench or in fume cupboards. They should be labelled appropriately and stored in a suitable place (e.g. solvent cabinet) until disposal arrangements have been made.
Waste of many different types is regularly removed from the University so disposal of hazardous substances can be done on a regular basis and waste must not be left to accumulate over a long period of time. Ensure you also make note of any special arrangements needed for the substances you are using in this section.
Refer to local Departmental Safety Regulations to find out how to dispose of waste locally or consult with your DSC for advice. Useful guidance can also be found on Estates Services website and in the document Guidance on the Selection and use of Disinfectants on Safety, Health and Wellbeing website.
